Brooklyn Robot Foundry Opens Summer Camp in Irvington, NY – STEAM, Robotics Fun, Community Partners, and More
Something big happened in Irvington, NY on May 30th. Brooklyn Robot Foundry Lower Hudson Valley officially opened its STEAM summer camp – and the community came out to celebrate. Families, community partners, and local leaders stopped by to mark the start of the season. Kids jumped into tinkering stations, built robots, and left with take-home projects they made themselves. Parents got to meet the team and connect with local partner organizations throughout the afternoon.
What families experienced
The event gave families a chance to see what a typical day at BRF actually looks like. We had robots set up for different age groups, so kids could explore and build at their own level. Some worked on mini robot builds, others gravitated toward the bracelet makers, and a few jumped into our open-ended projects. Parents got to watch their kids in action – which, honestly, is the best way to explain what we do for our STEM/Robotics summer camp in Irvington NY.
The community partners who showed up
One of the things that made this event genuinely special was the group of local partners who brought their energy, their expertise, and their love for this community to the table. This wasn’t a Brooklyn Robot Foundry event in isolation – it was a celebration of what Irvington and the Lower Hudson Valley have to offer families. Mathnasium of Ardsley-Irvington, Mindful Music Lessons, Wildly Cakes and OT Possibilities were all there, each offering their own activities and connecting with families throughout the afternoon.
Welcomed by Westchester County Executive
One of the highlights of the day was a visit from Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. He stopped by to welcome Brooklyn Robot Foundry lower Hudson Valley to Irvington and learn more about what we do – a nice recognition as we continue growing our STEAM programs across Westchester County through summer camp, school residencies, workshops, and more.
Official summer program Ribbon Cutting
We closed the afternoon with a ribbon cutting – joined by Rivertowns Chamber of Commerce President Tim Akapo, chamber members, and Westchester County Representative Shari Rosen Ascher. Cutting that red ribbon was a simple but fitting way to officially mark the launch of our summer camp program in Irvington.
Why Irvington?
Brooklyn Robot Foundry’s presence in Irvington didn’t happen overnight. It started with Rivertowns local parents who saw the value in hands-on STEAM education and advocated for bringing it to their community. That early support led us to Good Shepherd Early Childhood Center at Irvington Presbyterian Church – who saw the value in what we were building and welcomed Brooklyn Robot Foundry into the community. What started as a few workshops grew into a full summer camp, and now a home base for our school holiday programs in Irvington and the Rivertowns.
